Mentoring

At the heart of my mentoring is one-to-one sessions (typically 90 minutes) where we talk the hell out of a short story of yours, using it as a springboard for deep explorations of your work.

As well as interrogating the technical aspects of your fiction (such as point of view, handling of Time, story structure, character motivation, dialogue, creating action, conveying interiority etc.), we’ll investigate what you’re seeking to do, what you’re presently doing, what you’re afraid of doing, what might be holding you back, and where your writing is asking you to go.

Each mentoring session of mine is completely different to the last one. I don’t believe there’s any ‘correct’ way to write a short story, and I don’t seek to make authors write a certain way. Ahead of each session, I read and re-read your work closely, and through my observations and questions I try to make the space for you to hear yourself think.

‘Enquire about mentoring’ will take you to a short enquiry form.

Fill it in – and I’ll aim to get back to you within a week!
